FIP works with member organisations and regional forums to adapt its offerings—within the agreed scope—based on evolving needs and lessons learned over time.

Remit and purpose of FIP

FIP is a non-governmental, apolitical, secular organisation. Our vision is a world where everyone benefits from access to safe, effective, quality and affordable medicines and health technologies, as well as from pharmaceutical care services provided by pharmacists, in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. Our mission is to support global health by enabling the advancement of pharmaceutical practice, sciences and education. We wish to support the pharmacy profession in countries during crises and create awareness of pharmacists’ roles in disasters and emergencies.

Examples of what FIP can do:

  • Advocate needs & raise awareness of crises
    • Issue a non-political statement calling for adherence to international law
  • Network and facilitate collaborations and partnerships
    • Link to relevant experts or individual contacts, such as colleagues from the FIP Military and Emergency Pharmacy section
  • Contact WHO offices or other relevant stakeholders
    • Obtain a list of medical products needed and facilitate their delivery
  • Hold duty of care meetings with those impacted, if and when possible
    • Respond to direct requests from FIP member organisations and individual members
  • Provide resources
    • Provide relevant translations of useful resources and publications
    • Maintain a list of and provide resources such as pictograms, reference documents, webinars, guidance
  • Offer digital events and webinars
    • Organise digital events to understand the situation in the affected countries and highlight experiences and lessons learned

Examples of what FIP can’t do:

  • Make political statements
  • Engage in politically motivated activties (e.g. petitions, lobbying)
  • Mediate conflicts between member organisations
  • Impose solutions not requested by member organisations
  • Handle funds or money through fundraising
  • Transport or deliver any medicines anywhere
  • Promote fundraising due to potential issues related to verifying funding processes, how funds are gathered, and how they are used.
  • Advocate for or directly promote fundraising initiatives or money collections.
  • Handle or directly manage charity efforts, fundraising activities, or money collection.

FIP will be working with member organisations and regional forums to adapt the offer, within the agreed scope, based on needs and learnings over time.

Global examples of pharmacy in emergencies and disasters

Pharmacy’s Global Responses to Emergencies and Disasters: Country Examples is a report released by FIP in August 2025. It showcases how pharmacists worldwide support communities in times of crisis, presenting case studies from countries including Cameroon, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, and Ukraine. The report highlights pharmacists’ roles in responding to derailments, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, armed conflicts, and other emergencies.
